Oregon has an important opportunity to address diesel pollution through HB 2007. We have been working for years to address this and we cannot wait any longer for our communities to get #cleanairnow! In the final weeks of the legislature, we are running out of time and your voice is needed to pass HB 2007!
This bill accomplishes three key aspects:
- It does address the high diesel emissions that are happening in Portland’s frontline communities.
- However, it does not apply to the entire state. We will need to keep up the pressure in 2021 to ensure that the whole state is included in diesel emission reductions!
- It ensures that Volkswagen funds are distributed to the most impacted communities of diesel emissions.
- It creates an 11-Member taskforce that includes environmental justice communities to work together to find permanent and sustainable funding mechanisms to a just transition from diesel emissions and more.
Here is what you can do:
Please urge legislators to prioritize the passing HB 2007! How do you know who your representatives are? Click here to find your legislators!
Don’t know what to say: Here is an example:
“Hi, my name is [__________] and I’m calling to urge you to please address diesel emissions in our communities (indicate a personal story on why diesel is important to address; how does it impact you personally, your community, your children; etc.) We cannot wait any longer – all Oregonians’ health depends on action on diesel emissions. Please, I urge you to pass the strongest version of HB 2007 this session.”
Please stand with our communities in demanding cleaning up diesel emissions for healthy lungs, healthy children, and healthy communities that all Oregonians can benefit from.
